Yoga and Community Healing
Yoga heals collectives
Healing is both an individual and a collective process.
As I heal, my family/community heal.
As my family/community heal, I heal.
As my family, community and I heal, so does the world heal.
Community healing.
Community healing can help strengthen families and communities. It can help repair ruptured relationships and communication. Similarly to family or group therapy, community healing is about co-creating and sharing a safe space where we can let go of toxic or harmful patterns that are held within the collective. Community healing has found a strong resonance within yoga community space where people can access a deep sense of connection with others and are more inclined to offer compassion and kindness to others and themselves.
Why Yoga for community healing?
Yoga is an inclusive practice that can promote personal and community connection. ‘Even when practicing (yoga) alone, there is a sense of connection to a wider community' - Rachel Bilski, 2019
Yoga can help increase conscious awareness and critical thinking which allows people to better see and understand what is going on within the collective and how it connects to their own individual experience.
Yoga emphasis on cultivating inner peace, mindfulness, non-harm/non-violence and non-judgmental awareness, can become a great tool to help us develop our ability for compassion and our ability to pause and reflect.
Yoga can be used to help people work through heavy emotions and meet those emotions with compassion.
I regularly run my own yoga community healing programs to promote health and wellbeing with communities.
If you are looking for a yoga teacher to facilitate wellbeing/healing/yoga for a particular community project (school, community/youth centre, work place etc…) please do not hesitate to get in touch.
